ARCHIVES 2004
15.12.2004 Available right now : To be coming soon : - France : Montpellier, Lille 01.12.2004 15.11.2004 13.09.2004 02.07.2004 15.06.2004 06.05.2004 The enlarged Union should ease exchanges with eastern
neighbours and increase the number of business trips in those countries.
In this field also a careful cost management should be implemented since
costs for those trips can vary a lot from one country to another. Prague
is only 300 kilometres away from Bratislava but daily expenditures during
a business trip in Prague will be ±45% higher than in Bratislava. 08.03.2004 04.03.2004 The current particular situation in some countries
might have consequences for expats, either regarding cost of living
or quality of living. That is why those countries deserve regular check
up. The situation in Venezuela is still unstable. The demonstrations of the opponents to President Chavez that began in February have now become very violent in Caracas. The current crisis might go on several months before the conflict is solved and the already critical economic situation might become still worse. Haiti has witnessed a similar case, but things should evolve more rapidly with President Aristide's leave and the deployment of an international military force to restore the order. Those last events have however strongly affected the local economy and the further consequence might be a sensitive price increase. The economic situation in Zimbabwe is still alarming. Currency depreciation, galloping inflation and parallel exchange rate are part of the day-to-day life of expats in Zimbabwe. After several months of serious troubles, Côte
d'Ivoire is now back to more stability. The UN military forces due
to settle in the country could be another stabilizing factor and the
living conditions of expats should improve. 01.03.2004 Again, the global trend of those indices is influenced by the USD depreciation versus the Euro. Over the last year, the dollar has decreased by 16%, reaching thus a 30% decrease over the last two years. Consequently, the cost of living in the States has become more interesting for Europeans. This situation might as well evolve rapidly since the USD seems to be undervalued vs. Euro. The Japanese Yen and the British Pound have also depreciated the last few months. 25.02.2004 The current international situation regularly undergoes crisis in all regions of the world; that is why more and more companies use those figures in their expat remuneration calculation. This year, EuroCost International publishes figures for more than 180 locations around the world. |
